SN
Bose Museum was opened at the Physics Department of Dhaka University (DU) Sunday.
DU
Vice-Chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the Museum as the
chief guest at a function at the department.
Chairman
of Physics Department Prof Md Azizur Rahman presided over the function while
former professors of the department Dr Mohtasham Hossain, Dr. Harun-or-Rashid,
Dr Ajoy Roy, Dr Md Aminur Rashid, Professor AFM Yusuf Haider and Professor
Shamima Chowdhury were present, among others, on the occasion.
Prof
Arefin in his speech recalled the outstanding contribution of late Professor SN
Bose to develop physics education and research at both home and abroad.
He
is well known for his work on quantum mechanics in the early 1920s, the VC
said.
The
VC said that Prof SN Bose was very much close to famous scientist Albert
Einstein. The class of particles that obey “Bose-Einstein statistics, boson,
was named after SN Bose”, he added.
The
VC hoped that the young generation would be encouraged by this museum.
SN
Bose was a professor of Dhaka University Physics Department. Easy chair,
book-self, revolving chair, clock, corresponding letters between Bose and
Einstein and many other things used by SN Bose have been displayed in this
museum. (Source: BSS)
