The
Bangladesh High Court Sunday directed the authorities concerned to stop
demolition of the boundary wall of Lalbagh Fort within 24 hours.
An
HC bench comprising Justice Reza-ul Haq and Justice Abu Taher M. Saifur Rahman
delivered the order after holding a preliminary hearing on a writ petition.
At
the same time, HC bench issued a rule to explain in two weeks why directives
would not be issued to preserve the Lalbagh Fort a relic of Mughal
establishments in the capital.
Secretary
of cultural affairs ministry, director general of department of archeology,
curator of Lalbagh Fort and officer-in-charge of Lalbagh police station will
have to implement the court order.
A
report would have to be submitted in the court within July 5 on the progress of
implementation of the orders.
Human
Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) filed writ petition after reports were
published in media that the Lalbagh Fort boundary wall is being demolished, to
construct a parking lot.
Manzil
Morshed took part in the hearing for HRPB while Deputy Attorney General Taposh
