The
36th National Science and Technology Week and Science Fair kicked
off at National Science and technology Museum -2015 in Dhaka Sunday to create
an opportunity for young scientists to display their inventions at national
level.
State
Minister for Science and Technology Architect Yafes Osman inaugurated the
three-day science fair as the chief guest at a function while Chairman of the
Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology Prof Dr AFM Ruhal
Haque attended it as special guest.
Scientists,
teachers and senior officials of the ministry, among others, were present at
the function with Director General of National Science and Technology Museum
Swapan Kumar Roy in the chair.
Yafes
said, “Scientific practices have been expanded significantly across the country
as it has nearly 12 crore mobile subscribers. Mobile is one of the best
scientific devices and people are using it as communication and different other
purposes.”
As
young generations make up 65 percent out of the total population, he said,
Bangladesh is a highly potential country in advancing economically due to its
demographic dividend.
“We
are providing adequate facilities to our students to make themselves as skilled
workforce,” Yafes added.
He
said the country received many prestigious awards including South South Award
for its outstanding contribution to ICT during the last six years.
The
prestigious awards conferred by internationally reputed organizations recognizing
Bangladesh contribution to ICT have enhanced the image of country in the
international arena and sent a positive message to the investors to invest in
the country, he added.
Ruhal
said all students from national to grassroots levels should be involved in
different scientific programmes including the science fair to build an
economically advanced country.
National
Science and Technology Week and Science Fair are being held at district level
and it should be expanded up to union level, he added. As many as 168
participants from across the country are taking part in the National Science
and Technology Week and Science fair as they won district level competitions.
Lamia
Hasan, student of class ten of Naogaon Govt Girls High School, has developed automatic
fire extinguishing method for vehicle and she stood first for her invention in
Naogaon district.
While
narrating about her invention, she said this fire extinguishing method will be
able to control any fire incidents inside vehicles automatically, which will
save lives of the people.
Lamia
said, “I want to develop fire extinguishing method for factories and buildings,
if I get adequate support from government”. (Source: BSS)
